Visiting The Chiropractors Office

I had often wondered what it was like to visit a chiropractor. spring of 2003 I found out.

Back in 1986 I had a very bad motorcycle accident. In the car crash I broke my neck and back. It was terrible but,, I recovered somewhat and got mobile.

I was able to get back to most of the things I did before the crash, well at least until the year 2000.

It was then, that for some unidentified reason I had a retrogression and had to undergo lower back surgery.

All went well. except I had lost 30% flexibility in my neck and back. Ihad to go through physical therapy although, it was not really helping very much. So my Doctor said that I go to a Chiropractor's. He didn’t call them chiropractor though; he called them bone and joint manipulators. He had his assistant set up the chiropractic meeting for me.

A week later I found myself in the lobby of a nice clean Chiropractor's office. This was my first time and I didn’t know what to expect. I was uncertain about the whole ordeal.

I had a lot of pain and I really didn’t want someone bending and folding me in any way shape or form. So as you can image how cranky I was when I headed to the receptionist’s window. “Can I help you”, the slender dark haired young women from behind the glassqueried in a pleasant and friendly voice.

I was really trying not to sound testy as I barked out, yes I’m here to see the Dr.; I mean bone and joint manipulator. The receptionist smiled and ask me to fill out a few insurance form, then said told me to please take a seat.

It was a long time but finally a nurse came out and called my name. I was half way into a nod by that time and I didn’t’ hear her the first time. Again the nurse announced my name. I came to and answered, “I’m here”. Follow me please she said as she went toward the examining rooms in the back of the clinic. I go up and followed her to a small room that had a small medical table in the center and a few doctor looking things on a small counter on the right side. Please wait here and the doctor will be with you shortly the nurse told me then she went away.

It was just a short while after that when the chiropractor came in. “Hello, I’m Dr. Robinson” he introduced. “I see by your records your having a bit of a lower back problem.” Before I could answer he told me to lie down on my stomach on the table. I lay down, and without saying a word he started to manipulate me into shapes I didn’t even know I could get into.

As it is I was there about twenty minutes, although it felt like forever I truly didn’t’ feel any better, as a matter of a fact I felt worse. However,I was back there in three weeks ready and willing to go through the whole thing again.

Again this visit to the chiropractor was the same as the last. Again I didn’t feel any better. I was just as stiff and I hurt just as bad.

The next time I visited the chiropractor told me that if I was not getting better by then that I probably was not going to. I was amazed with his honesty. A lesser person would have just kept making appointments and receiving that insurance money. Although I didn’t benefit from my visits to a chiropractor please don’t think you won’t. I would prescribe that you see a Dr. if you have incapacitating pain and if he sends you to a chiropractor, go. Chiropractors know what they are doing and in most cases can help you.
